Nitrogen, which is part of ammonium sulfate, is well available to plants, is less mobile and does not leach from the soil, which allows its widespread use as a basic fertilizer and during spring fertilization. Ammonium sulfate is recommended for crops that require sulfur, as well as for those that, without much harm to the crop, grow with a slightly acidic reaction of the soil solution.
